TYPES OF
HAZARD/
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS/
SYMPTOMS
PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames. NO contact with oxidants.
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Above 62C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed.
Above 62C use a closed system, ventilation.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE

  • INHALATION
  • Abdominal pain. Blue skin. Dizziness. Headache. Ringing in the ears. Laboured breathing. Unconsciousness. Vomiting. Visual disturbance.
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • MAY BE ABSORBED! Redness.
    Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower.
  • EYES
  • Redness. Pain.
Face shield, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • (further see Inhalation).
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Give a slurry of activated charcoal in water to drink. Rest. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable metal or glasscontainers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
Separated from strong oxidants, food and feedstuffs. Ventilation along the floor.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
YELLOW OILY LIQUID , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR. TURNS BROWN ON EXPOSURE TO AIR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating or on burning producing highly toxic fumes (aniline, nitrogen oxides). The substance is a weak base. Reacts with oxidants.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
    TLV: 5 ppm; 25 mg/m3 (skin) (ACGIH 1991-1992).
    MAK: STEL: 10 ppm; 50 mg/m3 (ACGIH 1991-1992).

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and through the skin, and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air will be reached rather slowly on evaporation of this substance at 20C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance may cause effects on the blood , resulting in formation of methaemoglobin. Exposure far above OEL could cause lowering of consciousness.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization.
