TYPES OF
HAZARD/
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS/
SYMPTOMS
PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. Liquid formulations containing organic solvents may be flammable. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Foam, powder, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION The explosion hazard will depend on the solvent used in the formulation or on the characteristics of the dust.

EXPOSURE
STRICT HYGIENE! AVOID EXPOSURE OF ADOLESCENTS AND CHILDREN!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
  • INHALATION
  • Convulsions. Dizziness. Laboured breathing. Nausea. Unconsciousness. Vomiting. Pupillary constriction, muscle cramp, excessive salivation.
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • MAY BE ABSORBED! (Further see Inhalation).
    Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES

  • Face shield, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Abdominal cramps. Diarrhoea. Laboured breathing. Nausea. Unconsciousness. Vomiting. Pupillary constriction, muscle cramps, excessive salivation.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Rest. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT wash away into sewer. (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
Separated from food and feedstuffs, strong bases, strong acids. Well closed.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
    COLOURLESS LIQUID

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating or on burning producing toxic and corrosive fumes including phosphorous oxides and sulfur oxides. The substance slowly oxidizes in air and is hydrolyzed by acids and alkalies.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
    TLV: ppm; 0.4 mg/m3 (skin) (ACGIH 1991-1992).

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol, through the skin, by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly on spraying.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance may cause effects on the nervous system , resulting in convulsions, respiratory failure. Cholinesterase inhibitor. Exposure at high level may result in death. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Cholinesterase inhibitor; cumulative effect is possible: see acute hazards/symptoms.
    PHYSICAL
    PROPERTIES
    Melting point: -15/-12C
    Relative density (water = 1): 1.22
    Solubility in water: poor
    Vapour pressure, Pa at 25C: 2 x 10-4
Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: 5.073
    ENVIRONMENTAL
    DATA
This substance may be hazardous to the environment; special attention should be given to fish, crustacea.
    NOTES
The technical product has a very unpleasant odour. Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated. Specific treatment is necessary in case of poisoning with this substance; the appropriate means with instructions must be available. Carrier solvents used in commercial formulations may change physical and toxicological properties. Do NOT take working clothes home. Nialate, Niagara, Rhodocide and Vegfru formite are trade names.
