EXPOSURE
PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! STRICT HYGIENE! AVOID EXPOSURE OF ADOLESCENTS AND CHILDREN!

  • INHALATION
  • Cough. Sore throat.
    Local exhaust or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • Redness. See Notes.
    Protective gloves.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap.
  • EYES
  • Redness.
    Safety goggles.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Diarrhoea. Drowsiness. Headache. Nausea. Unconsciousness. Vomiting.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating.
Rinse mouth. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!).
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Do NOT wash away into sewer. Sweep spilled substance into sealable containers; if appropriate, moisten first to prevent dusting. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place (extra personal protection: P2 filter respirator for harmful particles).
Provision to contain effluent from fire extinguishing. Separated from food and feedstuffs.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
    ODOURLESS, COLOURLESS CRYSTALLINE POWDER.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating and on burning producing toxic and corrosive gases including phosgene (see ICSC # 0007) and hydrogen chloride (see ICSC # 0163). The solution in water is a weak acid.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
TLV: ppm; 10 mg/m3 (as TWA) (ACGIH 1994-1995).

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol, through the skin and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract.

    PHYSICAL
    PROPERTIES
    Melting point: 153-158C
    Relative density (water = 1): 1.80
    Solubility in water: none
Vapour pressure, Pa at 25C: negligible
Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: 4
    ENVIRONMENTAL
    DATA
Avoid release to the environment in circumstances different to normal use.
    N O T E S
Temperature of decomposition unknown in literature. Commercial products may contain dioxin which may cause characteristic health effects (chloracne, liver changes). If the substance is formulated with solvent(s) also consult the card(s) (ICSC) of the solvent(s). Carrier solvents used in commercial formulations may change physical and toxicological properties. The recommendations on this card also apply to esters of 2,4,5-Trichlorophenoxyacetic acid. Esterone 245, Trioxone and Weedone are trade names.
