  • Cough. Dizziness. Wheezing. Chills.
    Local exhaust or breathing protection.
    Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • Redness.
    Protective gloves.
    Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower.
  • EYES
  • Redness. Pain.
    Safety spectacles or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
    First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION

  • Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
    Rinse mouth.
    SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Sweep spilled substance into containers; if appropriate, moisten first to prevent dusting. Carefully collect remainder (extra personal protection: P2 filter respirator for harmful particles).
    Separated from strong oxidants. Dry.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
    COLOURLESS, ODOURLESS CRYSTALS OR POWDER.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:
    Dust explosion possible if in powder or granular form, mixed with air. If dry, it can be charged electrostatically by swirling, pneumatic transport, pouring, etc.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
    Reacts violently with oxidants. Reacts slowly with water to form trimellitic acid.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
    TLV: 0.005 ppm; 0.04 mg/m3 (ACGIH 1992-1993).


    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
    The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
    Evaporation at 20C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly when dispersed, especially if powdered.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
    The substance irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Inhalation of the powder or vapour may cause asthmatic reactions (see Notes). The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

    EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
    Repeated or prolonged inhalation exposure may cause asthma. Lungs may be affected by repeated or prolonged exposure. The substance may have effects on the blood , resulting in anaemia (see Notes).

    N O T E S
    The substance is combustible but no flash point is available in literature. The symptoms of asthma often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Anyone who has shown symptoms of asthma due to this substance should avoid all further contact with this substance. Specific treatment is necessary in case of poisoning with this substance; the appropriate means with instructions must be available.
