PROCEDURE AFTER ACCIDENTS AND FIRES
______________________________________________________________________

DISPOSAL AFTER SPILLS AND OTHER ACCIDENTS:

Do not dispose of by putting into sinks or down drains. Small
quantities of waste should be absorbed in materials such as sand,
sawdust, or similar dry absorbers.

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Water spray (do not use a direct jet of water)
foam, or dry extinguisher powder.

FIRST AID: If the eyes are affected, immediate washing for 15 min.
in running water is essential; the eyelids being held
open while this is carried out. An oculist should watch
the case for some time. Affected skin should be wiped
free of the product with paper or cloth, and then washed
well with soapy water and finally swabbed with Polyethyleneglycol
400.

TOXICOLOGICAL EFFECTS:

Given normal working precautions and adherence to the instructions
above, deleterious effects to those working are not to be expected.

Methylmethacrylate: LD50 - 7872 mg/kg.
LC50 - 3750 ppm.
However, with extended or frequent exposure to the product, skin and
mucous membrane sensitization cannot be excluded.

ECOLOGICAL DATA: The product must not be disposed of in skins or
drains. It is rated WGK. class 1, weakly pollutive
of water.

FURTHER DATA: The product is normally delivered in a stable condition.
If stored under unsuitable conditions of temperature, or
the storage time permitted is exceeded, polymerization
may occur and heat develop.

ALTERNATIVE NAME: Dibenzoyl Peroxide

FORMULA: (C6H5.CO)2O2

To ensure safety in transit benzoyl peroxide is moistened with 25%
of
water.

PROPERTIES: White granular crystals.
Molecular weight - 242.23.
Melting point - 104oC.
Insoluble in water.

HAZARDS: Irritant in contact with skin, eyes and respiratory system.
Threshold limit value - 5ppm. It is liable to explode when
heated above melting point or when subjected to friction or
shock when dry.

HANDLING: Good laboratory hygiene practices should be observed.
Avoid
contact with skin and eyes. Wear goggles and gloves.

STORAGE: Keep container tightly closed in cool well ventilated area.
Store damp and inspect containers regularly for signs of
drying out. Store away from sources of ignition and combustibles.

FIRE RISK: The dry material burns and is sensitive to heat, shock
and friction. May cause fire when mixed with combustible materials.
Extinguish fire with water or
carbon dioxide.

SPILLAGE: Moisten well with water and mix with plenty of sand.
Disposal in any quantity depends on local conditions and regulations.

FIRST AID:

EYE CONTACT: Irrigate with plenty of water.
